I wrote, directed and produced this documentary film on wild horses/mustangs in the US Rocky Mountains area back in 2002. Natürliche Hufbearbeitung nach dem Wildpferdemodell - für und wider - was bleibt?
Tafi`s Hufe werden hinten steiler gestellt, um der Absenkung der Fessel etwas entgegen zu wirken, so etwas kann ein Huforthopäde machen.
Anfangs wurden ihre Hufe am Tragrand etwas abgerundet, um die Kante zu brechen, damit sie besser abrollen kann. Später habe ich aber zu einer anderen Methode gewechselt: HGM einer vom Huf geleiteten Methode, die den Hufen von Tafi mehr Stabilität gegeben haben.
Auch mein kleiner Ponymann Fjölvi hat nach einer Hufrehe und der Bearbeitung mit HGM ein Jahr später wieder tolle Hufe und bewegt sich wieder über jeden Untergrund mit viel Lebensfreude.
Die Hufbearbeitung in Anlehnung an den Wildpferdehuf ist aus meiner Sicht sehr gut nachvollziehbar, jedoch auf einem anderen Territorium und anderen Klimazonen nicht immer sinnvoll.
Beim Wildpferdemodell unterstützt man die Hufmechanik durch eine leichte Wölbung am Tragrand an der Lauffläche und der Huf kann gut und schnell abrollen mit einer sogenannten Mustangroll, im Gegensatz zu einer scharfen Kante, um größtmögliche Bewegungsfreiheit zu garantieren.
Bei HGM ist die ganze Fläche des Tragrandes abzuschrägen, damit besser abgerollt werden kann und das Gewicht auf die ganze Fläche verteilt werden kann, ohne den Tragrand dünner zu machen.
Kann man diese Bearbeitungsarten auf alle unsere domenstizierten Pferde übertragen?

Es gibt aber auch Gegenstimmen, die sagen, dass unsere Pferde im Gegensatz zu den Wildpferden meist auf weichem Untergrund leben und andere Hufmechanik brauchen.
Unsere Hauspferde haben normalerweise nicht diese Sohlendicke wie Wildpferde, die auf steinigem Untergrund laufen und können mit dieser Rundung der Hufe vielleicht nicht mehr laufen, weil das Hufbein dann zu nah am Hufrand ist.
Eine Alternative ist dabei, einfach eine kleine Abrundung zu machen um dem Huf das Abrollen zu erleichtern.

Dressage With a Purpose, not for Sport

Ultimately the only reason we do dressage here at New Trails is because we need to create horses that give oxytocin to the children we ride with and therefore open up the child’s brain to learning.
We train dressage so we can teach a kid math on horseback.
The dressage is not the end in itself.
This gives us a perspective on the situation that few other than perhaps bullfighters and showjumpers have – that dressage is there to help a horse and rider get to where they want to get: even if its just to have a really nice soft safe balanced trail horse.
Dressage was never intended to be an end in and of itself. And the problem with sport dressage is that stress is inherent in all sport, because there is a score and a judge from the moment you begin, who never goes away; and the only joy is in good performance, and there is competition and judgment and therefore human ego at every level."
